FredericksburgTexas

Aaron and I went away for a long weekend the first weekend in June. We dropped the kids off at my parents, and went down to Fredricksburg, Texas. It was a much needed get away, and a fun way to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We stayed in a gorgeous and cozy B&B set back on a nice piece of land. The B&B had animals (think one of those drive through animal parks) roaming around, a gorgeous pond and bridge, and a wrap around deck/porch. It was romantic. The B&B gave us certificates to use at local restaurants for breakfast. It was a good idea in theory, but they give you $7 per person per day, and the restaurants they can be used at don't have things on their menu for $7 or under. So that was a bummer. The first and only breakfast place we went to everything was a la carte. It was one of the fanciest places we had ever eaten in terms of price and atmosphere. If we had wanted to share a portion, there was a "plate charge" of $4.50. Very interesting, and very not us. But it was fun to try something new anyway. We ended up eating lunch food there, and using up our certificates. We just had donuts the following morning, and Sunday morning I don't remember what we ate (quite possibly nothing).

The first night we ate Mexican food at a restaurant called Mamacitas. Best Mexican food EVER!! Maybe it was just so good because I was hungry, I didn't have to cook, and it was just Aaron and I??? But whatever the case, I highly recommend it! We had fajitas for two! Yummy to the max! We drove up and down Main Street about 10x (no joke) before finding it and finding the drive to turn in to. It was worth the trouble though.

Friday we spent the morning and early afternoon shopping along Main street. There are a lot of fun shops, and each of them are unique. Aaron bought me a OK charm for my James Avery charm bracelet. We went in a neat bookstore that had a scrapbook paper section with some of the most unique and beautiful scrapbook paper I had ever seen. I of course could not pass that up, so I bought a couple of pieces. I purchased a candle from Circle E candles. This companies candles came highly recommended, so I decided to get one. Most of the scents were great, except for the scent "family night". That was some kind of funky smell I NEVER want to smell again. I chose "apple strudel" and it seriously smells good enough to eat. We went in a cheese/salsa/honey/mustard tasting store. We didn't need lunch after going in there. We tasted some delicious things. I tasted then bought a southwestern spice mix packet to mix with cream cheese or sour cream for a future date night. Did Aaron get anything you might ask? Well...actually...he did buy a cow tail at a general store. It is some kind of caramel candy thing...he enjoyed it. We did a lot more looking than buying, but it was fun to spend the time together, walking hand in hand and not having to worry about the kids. When we got back to the B&B we turned on the tv and saw that there was a tornado close to our home. Not just close, but CLOSE! So that was distracting for sure. We were praying for all of our friends safety and were thanking God we were far away. We finally decided to head to dinner in the midst of all that. We went to K-Bobs steakhouse. It was also very yummy! They had a huge salad bar with everything you could ever want (or not want) on a salad. I piled mine a little too high because the croutons were falling off on the way back to the table. Oops! That was embarrassing!

The second day we climbed Enchanted Rock. We were trying to decide between the hiking, or swimming at a State Park, and we chose to hike. If you know me, you know I LOVE water, and I love to swim!! On this day however, the hiking was just calling out my name! I wouldn't say I love hiking, but I do enjoy it. It wasn't very high of a climb, but it was steep, and it reminded me just how out of shape I am. We made it to the top, and the view was beautiful! It is fun to look out and see God's handiwork! When we were done hiking we headed to Hondos for lunch. That was a fun and different experience for us. Live music, go get your own food from the kitchen when it is ready, and the best Rueben sandwich I have ever had. We then returned to the B&B and played games. Phase 10 and Boggle. Awhile later we ventured out for dinner. We ate pizza at West End Pizza Co. It was good, but not great. We ordered a large, and it was HUGE! Oh yeah, I now remember what Sunday breakfast was...cold pizza!

Sunday we got up and started to make our way back to my parents. We played a rousing few rounds of the alphabet game...with rules we made up along the way. Talk about fun, we really enjoyed it and had some great laughs. We drove around for a bit looking for places to live in the DFW area, but we were close to my parents house, and to close to resist heading there and giving all of our kids a big squeeze. We missed them so much, and it was so fun to see them all again! They had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's house!

Monday we made our way back home. Yes, we had a home to come home to, praise the Lord! We stopped at Olive Garden and had lunch with our kiddos.

We came away feeling refreshed, rested (even though I couldn't sleep in despite trying), and ready to tackle life. We also came away having not gone to a single winery...how did we manage that!? If you have the chance to go to Fredericksburg, TX, do so! It is romantic and enjoyable and gorgeous!

Yep, a terrible mirror picture to document our time.
We totally should have used the self timer, but hey!
